Halloween means candy, treats, and a whole lot of sugar, but having Type 1 diabetes doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun!
For those of you who follow me and have Type 1 diabetes, or have loved ones living with diabetes, I’m going to start sharing more recipes, products, and helpful finds regularly. I’ve discovered some really great brands and resources over the years, and I want to share more of them with you.
With Halloween coming up, I thought this would be the perfect time to share a few things I’ve been loving, from candy alternatives to a resource that’s made a huge difference in how I manage my diabetes.

I seriously cannot say enough good things about Glow Gummies. These are so good that I’d happily eat them like Skittles or gummy bears, even if I didn’t need them for low blood sugar!
The flavors are fantastic, and the gummies are soft and easy to chew. Blue Raspberry is my top pick, but Mixed Berry is right up there. I also tried their limited-edition Blackberry Lemonade, which was incredible. Their newest flavor, Razzleberry, reminds me of a berry gummy candy I used to eat when I was a kid.
One of the things I love most is that the carbs are measured out. Four gummies contain 15 grams of carbohydrates, so it’s easy to adjust the amount depending on what I need. Sometimes I’ll eat just two before a workout, and that helps keep me from having to stop because my blood sugar is dropping.
They’re technically my low blood sugar treatment, but I wouldn’t mind finding a few little bags of these in my Halloween trick-or-treat stash!

Blue Unicorn is a newer discovery for me, and I’m already hooked. These bars are chewy, covered in chocolate, and especially good straight from the refrigerator. I actually think of them more as a dessert than a protein bar.
The fruitier flavors are my favorites, particularly Raspberry and Cherry. I could eat the Raspberry bar every single day. It’s that good!
They’re also lower in carbohydrates, and I’ve found that they don’t raise my blood sugar too much. I love having one as a snack before a run, depending on where my blood sugar is.
If I were putting together my own diabetes-friendly Halloween candy stash, I’d happily swap a traditional Hershey’s bar for one of these.

I’m a huge fan of Pure Genius, especially because I don’t always want to drink an entire protein shake.
These little protein shots typically contain around 23 grams of protein, making them a convenient option when I want something quick. They’re also completely different from the usual creamy chocolate or vanilla protein drinks. The flavors are super tart and fruit-forward.
One of their newer offerings, Orange Blast, is my current pick. It reminds me of an orange Tic Tac, and it contains 5 grams of fiber.
I try to pair protein with my snacks because I’ve found that it helps me manage my blood sugar more consistently. So, when I’m having Halloween candy this year, a Pure Genius shot is something I’d alongside it.

Beyond snacks and candy, one of the biggest things I recommend to anyone living with diabetes is finding a qualified diabetes care and education specialist.
I’m a massive fan of Alicia Downs, and she’s helped me navigate so much when it comes to managing my Type 1 diabetes.
Even if you’ve been living with diabetes for years and feel confident in how you manage it, having someone knowledgeable to talk things through with can be incredibly valuable. Sometimes you need a second opinion, a fresh perspective, or someone to help you figure out a better approach.
With the holidays coming up, this could be a great time to connect with Alicia. You can work together on strategies for Halloween candy, trick-or-treating, holiday meals, exercise, or even everyday blood sugar management.
She’s been such a wonderful resource for me, and I’m excited to share her information with you!
