Chocolate-Dipped Valentine’s S’mores: A Sweet & Easy Dessert Idea!
Get ready to take your s’mores game to the next level with these Jumbo Chocolate-Dipped Valentine’s S’mores! Think classic s’mores flavor but dressed up all fancy for Valentine’s Day. They’re perfect for Valentine’s, Galentine’s, or absolutely no reason at all 😉 These are so easy to make, and honestly really hard to mess up. A s’more is always good in my opinion. Can’t wait to see how you decorate them!
Chocolate Dipped Valentine’s S’mores
Ingredients
- 1 bag of Ghirardelli white melting chocolate
- Pink food coloring (oil-based, such as Colour Mill)
- 4 full graham cracker sheets
- Nutella (about 2 tablespoons per s’more)
- 4 jumbo s’mores marshmallows
- Extra melted chocolate (in your choice of color) and conversation hearts for decorating (optional)
Instructions
- Break the graham cracker sheets into 8 squares. Spread a thin, even layer of Nutella on the back of each square. This will act as the “glue” to help the marshmallow stick.
- Place a jumbo marshmallow between two Nutella-coated graham cracker squares, forming a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining crackers and marshmallows.
- Melt the white chocolate according to the package instructions. Stir in pink food coloring to achieve your desired shade.
- Using a spoon, coat each s’more completely in the melted pink chocolate, turning it on its sides to ensure every surface is covered. Use a fork to lift each s’more from the chocolate and gently shake off any excess.
- Place the dipped s’mores on parchment paper to set. Once the chocolate is firm, drizzle additional melted chocolate (red or any color you prefer) over the top of each s’more. Finish with conversation hearts for a fun Valentines touch.
- Allow the decorations to set completely before serving.
The Backstory
Confession time: I’m not a fan of hot desserts. While I do love something with a hot-and-cold mix, like a brownie sundae or a cookie skillet topped with ice cream, molten cakes are a hard pass for me. The same goes for traditional s’mores—I’m just not into the melted chocolate. That’s why this twist on s’mores is just perfect for me. It has all the classic components—graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate- but the marshmallows stay fluffy instead of melting, the Nutella gives a hint of that milk chocolate flavor, and the white chocolate creates the perfect shell.
I worked in a chocolate factory for 13 years, so I feel right at home when working with chocolate. For the easiest option at home, I recommend Ghirardelli melts. If you want to add color, make sure to use oil-based food coloring—regular food coloring will cause the chocolate to seize and become lumpy. My coloring of choice is Colour Mill or Chefmaster Candy Color. To give these s’mores a Valentine’s theme, I used a darker, almost red drizzle by adding extra coloring to leftover pink chocolate. I think conversation hearts are so fun for valentines day so I added those, but people will probably pick them off anyways. Not sure people really eat them lol. Definitely use your candy or decoration of choice.
And these are super fun to make with kids. My 10-year-old daughter, Hayley, had the best time helping with these. She’s at that age where she wants to learn and be creative and get involved in the process. I dipped the s’mores and set them on parchment, but she took over with the decorating part—which most people like the best! I hope you give them a try, and if you come up with your own fun combos or share them on social media, tag me—I’d love to see them!
FAQ
1. Can I make these s’mores ahead of time?
Yes! You can prepare them a day in advance, and they should last a few days. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them fresh.
2. What kind of chocolate works best for dipping?
Use high-quality melting chocolate or chocolate chips. I pretty much only use Ghirardelli melts and use Colour Mill food coloring.
3. Can I customize the decorations?
Absolutely! Use heart-shaped sprinkles, colored sugar, or drizzle additional chocolate in Valentine’s Day colors.
4. Do I need a special marshmallow shape for this recipe?
While regular marshmallows work fine, using the s’mores (flatter) marshmallows makes it much easier! If you use regular, just cut them in half and place them side by side.
5. Can I use gluten free graham crackers?
Yes, absolutely!
6. How should I store leftovers?
Keep leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
7. Can I make these without a campfire or flame?
Yes! These are not the traditional warm and melty s’mores. They’re made to be eaten as-is.
8. Can kids help with this recipe?
Definitely! This recipe is kid-friendly and a fun activity for little ones to get creative with decorating.
9. How can I gift these s’mores?
Wrap each s’more individually in clear cellophane bags, tie with a festive ribbon, and add a Valentine’s Day tag.
10. Do I have to use Nutella?
Nope! I use it to help the marshmallows stick, but you can also use marshmallow fluff, peanut butter, or leave them as is- just be careful they don’t slide when dipping them in the chocolate.
