A merry mix of cocoa, marshmallow, and peppermint magic.

They come together quickly, look like they came straight from Santa’s workshop, and are perfect for movie nights, cookie trays, or sweet holiday gifting.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

• Easy no-bake dessert that’s ready in minutes.
• Chocolate and peppermint come together for the perfect festive flavor.
• Uses simple pantry ingredients like Cocoa Krispies and marshmallows.
• Fun to make with kids or for holiday parties.
• Perfect for cookie trays, gift boxes, or classroom treats.
• Stays soft and chewy for days — no dry bars here.

Ingredient Notes

• Cocoa Krispies: The chocolate base that gives these treats their signature cocoa flavor and crunch.
• Mini marshmallows: Melt for that classic chewy texture. Make sure they’re fresh so they melt smoothly.
• Butter: One stick (½ cup) adds richness and helps everything hold together without getting sticky.
• Peppermint extract: Brings that cool, candy cane flavor. Measure carefully so it doesn’t overpower.
• Crushed candy canes: Add festive color, crunch, and peppermint sparkle in every bite.

Before You Bake

Do I need to use fresh marshmallows?
Yes! Fresh marshmallows melt smoothly and give the best chewy texture. Older marshmallows can dry out, making your treats stiff instead of soft.

Can I use peppermint mini marshmallows instead of extract?
You can, but keep in mind they’ll add a slightly milder peppermint flavor and a pink tint. If you use them, skip the extract or reduce it to ¼ teaspoon.

Will these still work if I use regular Rice Krispies instead of Cocoa Krispies?
Absolutely. You’ll lose the chocolate flavor, but they’ll still have that sweet peppermint crunch. You could even add a drizzle of melted chocolate to bring it back.

FAQ

How do I keep Cocoa Candy Cane Krispies Treats soft?

Store them in an airtight container at room temperature with a piece of parchment between layers. Avoid refrigerating because it makes them hard.

Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes! They stay fresh for up to 3 days at room temperature or up to a week if individually wrapped.

Can I freeze Krispies treats?
You can, but the texture softens slightly once thawed. Wrap tightly in plastic and thaw at room temperature before serving.

How do I crush candy canes without making a mess?
Place them in a zip-top bag and crush gently with a rolling pin or heavy spoon- too much force will turn them into powder.

Can I drizzle milk or dark chocolate instead of white?
Definitely! Any melted chocolate works: white gives a snowy holiday look, while dark adds rich contrast.
