Recipe Rundown
Walmart Find Alert!
I was so excited to spot this Duncan Hines PEEPS Yellow Cake Mix at Walmart! I also grabbed the cupcake version (woohoo)—so stay tuned for another Peeps recipe coming soon.
Testing It As-Is
I baked the cake exactly as the package instructed—I like to try mixes the way they’re intended before tweaking anything. It baked up nicely and had a light, classic yellow cake texture.
Let’s Talk Frosting
Once the cake cooled, I added a chocolate fudge frosting with a little Nutella mixed in. It gave it a richer, deeper chocolate flavor that balanced out the sweetness from the Peeps. Super simple but really good.
Decorating Time!
For decorating, I used pastel sprinkles and confetti that popped against the deep chocolate frosting. Then came the stars of the show: bright pink, blue, peach, and yellow Peeps bunnies. If you can find the Peeps chicks too, those would look adorable! I love all the fun seasonal flavors they’ve been releasing—like s’mores and Rice Krispies Treats. Get creative and taste test a few!
🐣 Party-Ready & Kid-Friendly
This is the kind of cake that’s made for an Easter party—easy to whip up, super cute, and totally customizable. Plus, decorating it is a great way to let kids get involved. Give them a bowl of sprinkles and a pile of Peeps and let the chaos begin lol!
FAQ
Q: What is Peeps cake mix?
A: Peeps cake mix is a seasonal yellow cake mix by Duncan Hines, inspired by the iconic marshmallow Easter treat. It’s bright, fluffy, and perfect for spring desserts.
Q: Can I use a different frosting instead of chocolate hazelnut?
A: Absolutely! While chocolate hazelnut adds a rich, dessert-like flavor, you can swap it for vanilla, cream cheese, or even marshmallow frosting.
Q: Do I need to refrigerate the cake after decorating with Peeps?
A: If you’re serving it within a day, it’s fine at room temperature. For longer storage, keep it chilled—just know the Peeps might get a little firm.
Q: Can I make this cake ahead of time?
A: Yes! Bake the cake and make the frosting in advance. Decorate with Peeps and sprinkles right before serving so everything stays fresh and festive.
