A Bite-Sized Halloween Treat Inspired by Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Party Magic
These Not-So-Scary Cookie Cups bring a little bit of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party into the kitchen. They’ve got chewy cookie bases, a big swirl of Oreo buttercream, and of course, plenty of sprinkles because it’s a party!
Tips for Success
- Perfect cups: Press the centers down while the cookies are still warm so the edges don’t crack.
- Frosting swirl: A large star tip makes the Oreo buttercream look bakery-style.
- Party-ready: Add Mickey-themed sprinkles or cupcake picks to tie them into the Not-So-Scary vibe.
- Make ahead: Bake the cookie cups the day before, then fill and decorate right before serving.
Fun Facts
- The Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has favorite characters dressed up in Halloween Costumes like Minnie, Mickey, and Winnie the Pooh.
- The Cadaver Dans Barbershop Quartet perform hautning melodies in Frontierland.
- Everyone that attends gets a special treat bag to fill up with candy at the trick-or-treat locations.
- Special ride overlays- like Space Mountain in the dark are a favorite part of the event.
- Because it’s a separate-ticketed event, the park feels less crowded, making it one of the most popular seasonal celebrations at Walt Disney World.
Before You Bake
How do I keep the cookie cups from collapsing?
Press the dough evenly along the bottom and sides of the muffin tin before baking. Once out of the oven, use the back of a spoon to gently press the centers while they’re still warm. This helps shape them without breaking.
Do I need to let the cookie cups cool completely before frosting?
Yes! If they’re even slightly warm, the Oreo buttercream will melt and lose its shape. Cool completely in the pan before removing or filling.
Can I use store-bought cookie dough?
Definitely. Refrigerated dough works perfectly and saves time, making this recipe extra kid-friendly and easy for party prep.
Not So Scary Cookie Cups
Ingredients
- 1 package refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough (or 1 batch homemade)
- 1 stick salted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons heavy cream
- ½ cup finely crushed Oreos
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Halloween sprinkle confetti
- Halloween toppers
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 12-count muffin tin.
- Scoop about two tablespoons of cookie dough into each muffin cup and press the dough gently up the sides to form a cup.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
- As soon as they come out of the oven, press the centers down with the back of a spoon to make the cups deeper, then let them cool completely in the pan before removing.
- While the cookie cups cool, prepare the Oreo buttercream. Beat the stick of salted butter until smooth, then add the powdered sugar, heavy cream, Oreos, and vanilla. Mix until light and fluffy, adjusting the cream as needed for consistency.
- Transfer the frosting to a piping bag and fill each cooled cookie cup with a swirl. Decorate the tops with Halloween confetti and toppers.
FAQ
What kind of cookie dough works best?
Chocolate chip dough gives the best balance of flavor and texture, but sugar cookie or double chocolate dough are fun twists too.
Can I make the buttercream ahead of time?
Yes! You can make it up to two days in advance. Store it covered in the fridge and bring it to room temperature before piping.
How do I remove cookie cups from the pan without breaking them?
Run a small offset spatula or butter knife around the edges once cooled, then gently lift them out. Nonstick spray helps a lot.
Can I freeze cookie cups?
You can freeze the baked, unfilled cups for up to one month. Thaw at room temperature and fill just before serving.
How should I store leftovers?
Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or refrigerate for longer freshness. Let them come to room temp before serving for the best texture.
