Big news- HI-CHEW brought back its Halloween Mystery Mix for 2026 with Green Apple, Orange Creamsicle, Cotton Candy, and an all-new Mystery Flavor hiding inside every bag. Halloween candy and a little mystery go hand in hand. I love trying limited edition products, and I can tell you…it was fantastic.
HI-CHEW comes from Japanese confectionery company Morinaga, whose candy-making history dates back more than a century. The chewy candy itself evolved from a strawberry-flavored candy called Chewlets before HI-CHEW officially arrived in Japan in 1975.
Since then, flavor has become a huge part of the brand. HI-CHEW has released hundreds of varieties in Japan over the years, while shoppers in the United States have gotten everything from classic fruit flavors to sour varieties, dessert flavors, and seasonal mixes.

The 2026 Halloween Mystery Mix includes Green Apple, Orange Creamsicle, Cotton Candy, and the Mystery Flavor. The secret chew is completely white, so there is no color giving away what you are about to try.
Even the packaging gets a Halloween update. HI-CHEW’s mascot Chewbie gets dressed in a Frankenstein’s Monster-inspired costume, giving in to the whole spooky season theme.
The individual pieces are wrapped, which also makes this an easy option for Halloween parties, candy bowls, movie nights, or just a bit of portion control.
Of course, the Mystery Flavor was the one I was most interested in trying. We all thought it tasted like something different. To me, it tasted like blue raspberry with a hint of lemonade. There was a bright, slightly tart yet sweet fruit flavor that made me think of blue raspberry, but there was also something citrusy underneath.
Someone else in our group thought it tasted like mixed berry, while another vote went to candied fruit.
Normally, three completely different answers would make me think we had no idea what we were tasting. In this case, though, I think that is exactly what makes the flavor work. It has a sweet, fruity quality that is familiar enough to recognize, but it is difficult to pinpoint one exact flavor. More importantly, we all liked it and thought it was the best flavor in the bag.

Whatever the actual flavor turns out to be, I hope HI-CHEW eventually gives it a permanent name and keeps it around. The mystery may be the Halloween hook, but the candy is good enough that I would happily buy it after October.
