Why You’ll Love This Recipe

• Easy layered dessert cups that come together fast
• Classic chocolate and cherry flavor everyone loves
• A retro-inspired Black Forest dessert with a fun, modern twist
• Perfect make-ahead dessert for parties and gatherings
• Simple ingredients using a boxed cake mix shortcut
• Individual dessert cups that are easy to serve and share

Ingredient Notes

• Chocolate cake mix: Any boxed chocolate cake works here. Bake it ahead and let it cool completely before cutting into cubes so the layers stay neat.
• Cherry pie filling: This adds both sweetness and texture. If the cherries are large, give them a quick chop so they layer more evenly.
• Cherry syrup: Maraschino cherry syrup adds that classic Black Forest flavor. Use a light drizzle so the cake stays moist but not soggy.
• Whipped cream: Store-bought whipped topping or freshly whipped cream both work. If making your own, whip it just until soft and fluffy for easy layering.
• Chocolate curls or shavings: These add a little texture and a classic finish. A vegetable peeler and a chocolate bar work perfectly if you don’t have pre-made curls.
• Maraschino cherries: Use these for garnish right before serving for the best look and color.

Quick Prep Notes

Do I need to bake the cake ahead of time?
Yes. Bake the chocolate cake first and let it cool completely before cutting it into cubes so the layers stay neat and defined.

How much cherry syrup should I use?
A light drizzle is enough. The goal is added flavor without soaking the cake, since the cherry pie filling already adds moisture.

Can these be made ahead?
Yes. These dessert cups are ideal for making ahead. Assemble, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before serving.

3. Repeat the layers once more with cake, cherries, and whipped cream.
4. Finish with a swirl of whipped cream, a sprinkle of chocolate curls, and a maraschino cherry on top.
5. Chill for about 30 minutes before serving so everything sets up and the flavors come together.

FAQ

Can I use homemade whipped cream instead of store-bought?
Yes. Homemade whipped cream works well. Whip it to soft peaks so it layers smoothly.

What size dessert cups work best?
Clear cups or glasses that hold about 6 to 8 ounces are perfect for clean layers and easy serving.

Can I freeze these Cherry Jubilee Cake Cups?
Freezing is not recommended. The whipped cream and cherries will lose their texture once thawed.

Can I use fresh cherries instead of cherry pie filling?
You can, but they’ll need to be cooked with sugar to create a syrupy texture. Cherry pie filling gives the classic flavor with less prep.

How long should these chill before serving?
Chill for at least 30 minutes so the layers set. Longer chilling time is fine if you’re prepping ahead.
