This Count Chocula Cake is the ultimate treat for Halloween lovers and cereal enthusiasts alike! Not only does it deliver a deliciously rich chocolate flavor with a funfetti twist, but each slice is decorated to give it a little personality. Inspired by the iconic Count Chocula cereal, this cake is sure to be the star this Halloween. Here’s a break down of the recipe and be sure to let me know if you have questions!
The cake itself starts with a simple but flavorful base—a chocolate funfetti mix elevated with buttermilk, plus the regular vegetable oil, and eggs. This combo ensures a moist and tender crumb while the funfetti sprinkles add a spooky little pop of color. Once baked and cooled, the cake layers are ready to go!
To give each slice its own personality, I divided the buttercream into three distinct flavors and colors. The first is a light and fluffy marshmallow buttercream to account for the marshmallows in a bowl of Count Chocula cereal. The second is a whimsical purple buttercream, for the little extra touches. The final buttercream is a deep, dark chocolate, because hey, that’s what the Count is all about.
Decorating each slice individually is now my new favorite thing. After applying a smooth crumb coat and a final layer of frosting, the cake is topped with a luscious chocolate ganache that drips over the sides. Once the ganache is set, each slice is topped with gummy vampire teeth, chocolate bats, and a sprinkle of Count Chocula cereal. How’s that for Halloween fun?!
All of the garnishes are completely optional, and feel free to put your own spin on it! I’d love to see what you come up with. I had to add a sprinkle of Count Chocula cereal, but since the marshmallows will get soggy fast, be sure to serve it after decorating.
The final result made me so happy! I really preferred this to regular cake decorating. Each slice felt like its own individual cake. Turning cereal into a cake was a hit for me! I can’t wait to do the others 🙂
