I’ve tried a lot of protein bars over the years, and they’re usually hit or miss. They tend to be chalky, overly dense, or trying very hard to taste like dessert without quite getting there. More like a really sad excuse for dessert.
Built Bar Puffs are one of the few that actually feel like a treat. Instead of that dense, heavy bite, these are light, fluffy, and coated in chocolate with added textures on top. It’s a completely different experience from a traditional protein bar.
I’m also an affiliate for Built, but I’ve genuinely loved their Chunk Puffs for a long time. I was excited to try a mix of flavors again and really pay attention to what makes them stand out.
If you’ve never had one before, the easiest way to picture it is a marshmallow-style center covered in chocolate and finished with toppings or chunks.
The center is soft and slightly chewy, almost like a whipped marshmallow. Then you get the chocolate coating, followed by whatever toppings are layered on top.
So instead of one flat texture, you get multiple layers in each bite. They feel closer to a candy bar than a traditional protein bar, just lighter and easier to eat.
Another thing that makes the brand stand out is how often they release new flavors. They keep a few staples, but a lot of what they do revolves around limited drops, which makes it more fun than grabbing the same bar every time. If you know me, you know I love a fun limited edition snack.
This one is so good, it makes sense that it’s a year-round staple.
The Cookie Dough Chunk Puff has a soft cookie dough-flavored center, a dark chocolate coating, and cookie dough chunks on top.
The texture is what really stands out. You get that light, fluffy bite first, then a slight chew from the coating, and then the added chunks on top. If you like edible cookie dough this would be a great trade up for you.
Flavor-wise, it actually delivers. It tastes like a dessert bar you’d reach for instead of candy, with that classic chocolate and cookie combo.
If you’re trying Built Puffs for the first time, this is an easy place to start.
This is by far one of my favorites and it’s released from time to time throughout the year.
The Peanut Butter Cookie Chunk Puff has a chocolate center, peanut butter cookie chunks on top, and a milk chocolate coating.
The chocolate and peanut butter balance is really well done. Neither flavor takes over.
The milk chocolate gives it a slightly sweeter flavor compared to the cookie dough version, and the peanut butter chunks add extra texture that rival a Reeses.
If you’re looking for something that feels like a dessert replacement, this is the one I would recommend. Especially if you’re heading to the movies and planning on having popcorn.
This is the newest one I’ve tried, and it’s so good. I wish they’d stock this one year-round.
It has that Andes mint-style flavor with the perfect balance of cool mint and rich chocolate. The brownie chunks on top add a deeper, fudgy texture that works really well with the lighter center.
It’s a solid 10/10. It also has 15 grams of protein and only 160 calories, which makes it a great option for an after-dinner treat with a slightly refreshing finish.
The biggest reason I keep buying Built Chunk Puffs is the texture.
They’re light instead of dense, fluffy instead of chalky, and layered instead of flat.
That marshmallow-style center combined with the toppings makes each bite feel like a treat.
It doesn’t feel like something you’re forcing yourself to eat. It feels like a sweet snack that happens to have protein.
For someone who always wants something sweet after a meal, this really works.
One of the smartest things Built does is release limited flavors regularly.
Instead of sticking with the same lineup, they rotate in new options and seasonal drops. That keeps things from getting repetitive and gives you something new to try.
Once you find a texture you love, like the Chunk Puffs, it makes you want to keep an eye out for what they release next.
I almost always go for the chocolate-based ones. They consistently have the best flavor, and I’d pick them over a candy bar every time.
Built Bar Chunk Puffs are one of the few protein bars that actually feel fun to eat.
I would buy any of the chocolate-coated Chunk Puffs again without thinking twice. They hit that balance between dessert and protein snack really well.
If you’ve never tried the puff texture before, you need to. They really are that good.
If you want to try them, you can use my code TARYN10 for 10% off on Built’s website:

Keep a few of these in the fridge and treat them like your after-dinner dessert stash. It turns grabbing a protein bar into something you actually look forward to instead of something you feel like you should eat.
