Chocolate Fudge Frosting

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ⅔ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 46 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the softened butter on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until light and creamy.
  2. Add the cocoa powder and mix until fully incorporated, scraping down the sides as needed.
  3. Gradually add the powdered sugar, about 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed to combine. Once all the sugar is in, increase to medium-high and beat for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and 4 tablespoons of heavy cream. Beat on medium-high speed for another 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  5. If the frosting is too thick, add additional cream 1 tablespoon at a time until your desired consistency is reached. For a whipped, airy texture, beat an additional 2–3 minutes on high speed.
  6. Use immediately or if not using right away, store in an airtight container in the fridge and bring to room temperature before re-whipping.
