  • 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup Dutch-process cocoa or unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy and smooth.
  2. Gradually mix in half of the powdered sugar until combined.
  3. Add the remaining powdered sugar, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and heavy cream.
  4. Beat on medium-high speed until the frosting is light, fluffy, and completely smooth.
  5. If needed, adjust the consistency by adding a splash more cream for a silkier texture or extra powdered sugar for a thicker finish.
